YOU WON’T COME BACK
You won’t come back,
But I leave the door ajar,
Like a fool still waiting
For footsteps on the porch,
For the key to turn in the lock.
You won’t come back,
But I sleep on the left side,
I keep your pillow untouched,
As if the ghost of you
Might still rest there at night.
You won’t come back,
But I write to you anyway,
In letters I burn,
In silences that scream your name.
You won’t come back.
And yet, every beat of my heart
Still knocks on your door.
