LOVE THAT DEVOURS
I loved you until I disappeared,
Until I became the shadow of your shadow,
Until I lost myself in your absences,
No longer knowing where my body ended.
I loved you like a drowning man clings to water,
Like a condemned man kisses the rope,
Like a madman dances in the rain
Thinking it will drown his tears.
You took everything.
My voice, my nights, my breath,
You left a void
That eats me from the inside,
Like a hunger that knows no end.
And yet,
If I had to do it all over again,
I’d still love you.
Even knowing you would destroy me.
